Cрпска ћирилица for Slovak

  1. Ngoại ngữ

This is a draft of my personal Cyrillization system for writing Slovak.

This scheme makes use of the Serbian variation of the Cyrillic script. Why? I simply want it that way. So this is completely personal! First, here’s the list. I will discuss in detail right below.

Š š = Ш ш (eš)

T t = Т т (té)

Ť ť = Ћ ћ (mäkké té)

U u = У у (u)

Ú ú = Ý ý (dlhé ú)

X x = КС кс (iks)

Y y = И и (ypsilon)

Ý ý = И’ и’ (dlhý ypsilon)

Z z = З з (zet)

Ž ž = Ж ж (žet)

  • This project is still in progress. There are still some points that annoy me. For example, I am using the acute accent with long letters (Á á, É é, Í í, etc.), but it seems problematic somehow. As can be seen from the list above, some cannot be displayed, therefore I simply use a ’ for those. In handwriting, I suppose it should work…
  • And I haven’t found something else for some letters so I simply use the exact same letter as in the standard Slovak orthography, although they don’t exist in the standard Serbian Cyrillic alphabet (Ô ô, for instance).
  • Some sounds in Slovak don't really exist in Serbian. That’s why I have to employ some letters with close phonetic value; which are still off, but not a huge problem. For example: Ď ď /ɟ/ = Ђ ђ /dʑ/, Ť ť /c/ = Ћ ћ /tɕ/. It’s possible to “cheat” but I don’t want to go too far from Serbian. That is a crazy point of this project
  • This is the case that bothers me the most: Slovak makes distinction between H h and CH ch whereas Serbian doesn’t. I'vr decided that both will be Х х then! Or should I use an accent for one of them?
  • The problem of I i and Y y, both will be И и in this system.
  • In cases where the consonants are softened, such as de, te, ne, le, di, ti, ni, li, dí, tí, ní, lí, die, tie, nie, lie, dia, tia, nia, lia; the spelling stays the same as in Slovak. For example: deň becomes дењ, not ђењ.
  • In fact, the above rule applies for other cases. For example, povedz = поведз, not повецspievať спиеваћ, not спjеваћ or спиjеваћ, etc. That is to say, we write Slovak words using this system just as how they are written in the Slovak standard orthography using the Latin script (with the exceptions listed above).
  • The problem of Q q, W w and X x: I have very little experience with the Cyrillic script, so I still don’t know how I should handle this. Generally, I would use probably use КВ кв for Q qВ в for V v, and КС кс for X x. I believe it’s easier to tell in specific cases.

Although this is simply a personal project (mostly for fun!!!), I warmly welcome all constructive criticisms/comments. Changes will be made if necessary.
